HISTORY.
The u3a is a worldwide movement encouraging people who have passed the stage in life of paid employment (third age) to continue an active life by sharing their interests in friendly, informal and informative settings.
Rugby u3a
Rugby u3a was founded in 1998 with about 60 members and a handful of Activity Groups. Since then it has grown to nearly 700 members and approaching 100 activity groups.
Monthly Meetings are held on the afternoon of the second Thursday of the month currently at the United Reformed Church Hall, Hillmorton Road, commencing at 2 pm. There is a charge of £2 for members and £3 for visitors.
Each month an invited speaker gives a presentation. These have ranged from apiary to yachting, prestidigitation to precious gems. Many are of local interest, some presenters are Rugby u3a members. Entry includes light refreshments after the talk; a good opportunity to socialise with fellow Members or find out more about the benefits of membership.
Activity Groups vary in both type and size. Smaller groups generally meet in the home of a member, whilst larger ones rent a suitable hall. Groups generally meet on a regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis according to the wishes of the Group Members. Some Activities take place on a less regular basis, e.g. outings for members.
